Belimo's New EF Spring Return Actuator, the most powerful of its kind!
The Belimo EF actuator utilizes rugged components in a pressure cast aluminum housing for added strength and reliability. It offers a high torque output of 270 in-lbs and a NEMA 4 option to meet tough environmental conditions found in many HVAC applications.
The EF actuator was developed to satisfy high torque applications with a single actuator. The EF can take the place of two classic Belimo AF actuators in a piggy-back mounted application; simplifying wiring and mounting requirements while reducing material and installation costs. The NEMA 4 protection feature allows complete access to change the direction of rotation and allows locking or manually overriding the actuator.
The EF provides a cost effective and flexible solution that will deliver years of dependable performance over a wide range of operating conditions. The EF offers easy installation, commissioning and connects to high torque applications with a complete line of accessories. Dual EF mounting on a single shaft is possible for higher torque. The EF series spring return actuators are available in basic models offering 24 or 120 VAC and faster run times with MFT models. NEMA 4 versions come with an integrated junction box providing faster and easier installation. MFT versions provide the flexibility to program the actuator in the field for various proportional control functions and DC voltage feedback signals.
Custom models provide the option of appliance or plenum cable in various lengths (EFX NEMA 2 models only). MFT models offer many proportional control functions and DC voltage feedback signals that can come programmed from the factory or in the field.

Intelli-M Access from infinias – Simple. Secure.
source: infinias.com
Intelli-M Access delivers a highly scalable, browser based interface with a server that can be virtualized and fit easily into any IT infrastructure. Manage multiple locations and access your system from anywhere on your network, including over a VPN.
Let's look at the benefits of an Intelli-M system:
Today's organizations depend heavily on their networks. As a result, considerable planning and investment is made in ensuring that the infrastructure is secure, reliable and well managed. By moving as many applications to that infrastructure, an organization can leverage the investment cost across those applications. Security should be no exception.
To that end, door controllers should be installed out near the door to minimize customer door wiring and they should communicate seamlessly across the corporate network.
Software solutions that are browser based allow an organization to run the solution from any workstation on the network without the headache of installing, managing updates or worrying about which computers it should be installed on. Particularly for security, being able to access the system immediately from anywhere can be very important.
With a highly capable single door power over Ethernet (PoE) door controller, custom wiring for the door hardware is kept as short as possible, and network cable runs from the controller to the nearest switch minimizing the cost of installation and complexity of management.
Intelli-M Access delivers a highly scalable, browser based interface with a server that can be virtualized and fit easily into any IT infrastructure. Manage multiple location and access your system from anywhere on your network, including over a VPN.
- Intelli-M Access is available wherever and whenever you need it via web-browser with no client installation. Manage Intelli-M Access from anywhere you can run a standard browser that supports JavaScript, e.g., most computers and smart-phones, such as Apple's iPhone.
- View events and alarms, generate reports and monitor the status of devices using the simple yet powerful user interface from within most popular web browsers.
- Configuring doors is a snap with templates and pre-installed defaults that simplify the process, helping get an installation up and running in minutes.
- The People tab makes finding users simple with its visual formatting and search field that allows you to type in one place, but be searching on all important fields at once. This makes dinding one cardholder in a large system a breeze.
- Print Badges from the people page or in bulk from the reports page.
- Design and build badges and reports using Microsoft's Report Builder: a free design tool.
- Use advanced features such as Lock all Doors and Momentary Unlock to safely and easily manage a site. All these functions can be performed remotely using a smart-phone or lap-top for convenience and peace of mind.
- Create as many Schedules as you like with an easy click and drag interface. Holiday sets are quickly and easily built with a point and click. Associate them together and your system knows when to unlock the door and when not to.
- Intelli-M Access uses a highly scalable architecture to deliver access control for installations of any size.
- The Intelli-M Access Import Utility provides a simple interface to import Supervisor Plus cardholder information or read a .CSV or .XML file to bulk load card-holders and their badge images into the system.
- Multiple security roles allow you to decide if a card-holder should be able to log on to the system and what they will be allowed to do.
Putting it all Together
- Start with a base kit, S-BASE-KIT includes the software DVD, five clamshell cards and the security key.
- Add doors using door kits. We have two great door kits to offer. Both include standard Wiegand 26 bit readers. The S-DOOR-KIT-WX includes an XceedID XF1050 Mini-Mullion reader. The S-DOOR-KIT-WH includes an HID 6005 ProxPoint Plus reader.
- If you do not have PoE, use the S-PCON-PS at each door to inject power. The new PCON includes the DC adapter.
- Choose between clamshell or printable PVC cards that work with the readers in either door kit. Clamshell: P-XCID-7410 Printable: P-XCID-7510
- Add a printer for professional looking badges. Choose from great quality low or high volume printers by Magicard. MC-200 Single/Double sided Low Volume Printer: A-BDG-3633-0003 Rio 2e Single Sided with Feeder for high volume: A-BDG-M9006-749E
A Quick Summary:
- Fully intelligent, all decisions are made at the door for quick response and full redundancy.
- Four inputs are provided for door contacts, PIR, exit buttons, Alarm panel inputs and other sensors.

Siemens QPA20 Series Room Air Quality Sensors
The QPA20… series room air quality sensors optimize room comfort by enabling demand-controlled ventilation. The sensors can acquire: CO2 and volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations, relative humidity, and temperature. Models are available for CO2, CO2/VOC, CO2/T, and CO2/T/RH.
The sensor evaluates the CO2/VOC concentrations and transforms it to a 0 to 10 Vdc linear proportional output signal.
For models with humidity, a capacitive humidity sensing element changes capacitance as a function of the relative humidity. An electronic measuring circuit converts the humidity signal to a continuous 0 to 10 Vdc signal that corresponds to a relative humidity range of 0 to 100%. For models with temperature, the sensor acquires room temperature with a sensing element that changes electrical resistance as a function of the temperature. The resistance is converted to an active 0 to 10 Vdc output signal that corresponds to a temperature range of 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C) or -31°F to 95°F (-35°C to 35°C).
Sensors with an LCD window display the following measured values:
- CO2 in ppm
- CO2 and VOC as a bar chart (4 bars ≈ 2V, 20 bars ≈ 10V)
- Temperature in °C or °F
- Relative humidity in %
The wall-mounted sensors are suited for use with all systems and devices capable of acquiring and handling a 0 to 10 Vdc output signal.
Features:
- Multisensor for CO2/VOC, temperature, and humidity-temperature
- Maintenance-free infrared CO2sensing element, VOC sensing element based on a heated tin dioxide semiconductor
- 24 Vac operating voltage, 0 to 10 Vdc output signals

Automation Components, Inc. (ACI)
Automation Components, Inc. (ACI) was initially formed in 1991 in Middleton, Wisconsin. ACI has made a name for itself in the HVAC/R Industry by producing quality temperature sensors using crimped Etched Teflon lead wires and double encapsulated probe assemblies. Short lead times and service based customer support are also ACI trademarks.
In 1996, ACI developed its first pressure transmitter, the ACI/DP Series. It combines jumper selectable output ranges with a highly accurate capacitive sensor. The ACI/LP Series follow with the same reliability, but offered a competitive price that is still unmatched.
In 1999, ACI broke into the Relative Humidity market with a strong initial entry, the ACI/RH line. This product line is still making waves in the industry based on its reliability and performance. Our product now includes Field selectable output ranges, dip switches for validation purposes, and options for testing the sensor output.
In 2002, ACI used its experience with relative humidity sensing to design an enthalpy sensor. In addition, two sensors can be combined to provide a differential enthalpy using the ACI/DIFF-ENT.
In 2006, ACI made another big leap by introducing a line of Current Transmitters and Switches. We have created a line of current sensors that makes stocking current sensors more streamlined. High amp ranges, low trip points, status LED's and Din Rail mountable features are standard. Mini Current sensors were added to this line in 2009.
ACI also carries many accessories like gas sensors like A/CO (Carbon Monoxide), A/CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), and Power Supplies like the A/PS1.5.
ACI is always available to talk to you about your application needs and assist you through parts available at MidwestBAS. |

October is Energy Awareness Month
October is a busy month - besides Halloween, it's also National Popcorn Poppin' Month, Doll Collector's Month, Stamp Collecting Month, and Spectacle of the Geese Month! But more importantly for the planet, October is Energy Awareness month.
On September 13, 1991, President George Bush proclaimed October as Energy Awareness Month. For more than 15 years, government organizations — in partnership with businesses, associations, and concerned citizens — have observed this month with activities and programs to promote public understanding of our energy needs and to reduce energy consumption in our everyday lives.
October is a great time to get started on the path toward energy savings with ideas and activities from ENERGY STAR.
It doesn't take a lot of time to make a big difference in the environment. Sometimes, it's just a matter of tweaking a few habits. Try these ideas for energy efficiency...
At Work: Set up bins to recycle all paper, plastic, aluminum cans and glass. Contact your city utility department to find out what recycling services they can provide.
At Home: Set your thermostat below 68 degrees in the heating seasons and above 78 degrees in the cooling season to save energy.
At Work: Avoid phantom energy loads. Unplug appliances or electronic equipment, including battery chargers, when not in use - or - buy a power strip to plug everything into and flip the switch off at night.
At Home: Save paper. Monitor, receive and pay your electric, gas and utility bills online.
At Work: Reuse mail packaging - bubble wrap, cardboard boxes and Styrofoam blocks - or find someone who can
At Home: Give experiences like movie or show tickets, a dinner party or a spa day as gifts, rather than manufactured products.
This year's Energy Awareness Month theme from the Federal Energy Management Program is "Working to Secure a Clean Energy Future." To find out more click here to download the pdf.

We have also updated our Square D Occupancy Sensors. Read more about Square D Occupancy Sensors below.
Occupancy sensors offer a multitude of methods for reducing lighting-related energy consumption and are most effective when used in conjunction with other control devices to comprise a comprehensive solution that enhances occupant comfort and convenience, building functionality, and energy efficiency.
Normally, an occupancy sensor detects when an area is occupied and turns on the lights, then turn off the lights when the area is unoccupied, thus reducing energy consumption. An array of sensing technologies may be used to detect occupant motion, including passive infrared (PIR), ultrasonic and dual technology. Attention to the proper technology will reduce false on-and-off operation.
- PIR sensors are ideal for private restrooms and private offices less than 300 square feet and free of obstructions. PIR is a line-of-sight motion detection technology. Obstructions, like high file cabinets and partitions in offices or shower curtains and interior walls in restrooms, prevent PIR sensors from accurately detecting motion. PIR sensors detect the difference between radiated heat from people in motion and normal background. They are limited to line of sight and generally can sense a full body in motion to a distance of about 40 feet or the motion of a hand to a distance of about 15 feet.
- Ultrasonic sensors are great for large corridors and hallways, multi-stall restrooms, stairwells, storage areas and open office areas where obstructions are usually present or where the coverage area is larger. Ultrasonic sensors typically have minor motion coverage up to 700 square feet. Ultrasonic detection is not line of sight and can sense hand motion up to 25 feet away. They work reliably when obstructions are present but can be susceptible to false on events due to motion in adjacent areas or from moving objects such as fans.
- Dual technology employs PIR detection to sense major motion as occupants enter, then turns the lights on. While the room is occupied, both PIR and ultrasonic motion detection is used to keep lights on, and once the room is unoccupied, the sensor shuts off lights to save energy. Combining PIR and ultrasonic detection together in this way helps to prevent false on-and-off events in larger meeting rooms, conference rooms and waiting rooms.
